We are delighted to announce the four selected grantees of our first call for a residency organized by the Mahmoud Darwish Chair, Bozar, A. M. Qattan Foundation, Camargo Foundation and Mucem.
This selection was made by a selection committee of seasoned professionals consisting of four members representing each partner:
Yazid Anani (Director of Public Programme, A. M. Qattan Foundation), Nedjma Hadj Benchelabi (Curator & Programme Coordinator of Darwish Chair/Bozar, Julie Chenot (Executive Director, Camargo), Agathe Guillou (Head of International Relations, Mucem) and two advisors: Rasha Salti (curator & writer) and Driss Ksikes (Dramaturge, researcher and writer).
The aim of the call and of the guiding criteria of the selection of grantees is to contribute to a contemporary conversation on Darwish’s legacy as well as to support scholars and artists from the Arab world. The four grantees were selected with this consideration and furthermore in view of the multidisciplinary nature of their proposal, its positioning at the intersection of art and research, its ability to bridge the personal and the universal and to question history as well as contemporary national and international politics. The committee expects from the laureates to unveil future spaces and at the same time to dig in the past and its legacies.
The number of applications exceeded our expectations, forty-nine in total, which were very inspiring and carefully reviewed. This impressive response reinforces the determination of the four institutions in this collective initiative, and we would like to thank all applicants for their proposals.
